Who We Are
Children's Health International is a registered non-profit organization under the IRS tax code 501(c)(3) founded in 1998, dedicated to saving lives, educating families, improving the quality of education for children in developing countries, and providing adequate health care to children with infectious and communicable diseases. Our first few projects have been in Ghana.
Our Mission
Children's Health International's (CHI) mission is to increase global awareness of the plight of children in underdeveloped countries, in order to raise the necessary funds and supplies to provide for their care and well-being. This is a persevering process aimed at ensuring and improving on the provision of adequate health care and education to under served children with dignity and compassion. Our organization works together with physicians, nurses, teachers, and supportive agencies at each location with the goal of fostering conditions that are conducive to sustaining the physical and mental well-being of all children.
Our Goals
New School Supplies
- Currently, the children use only chalkboards and chalk for their school lessons. CHI would like to fund a “supply backpack” for each child that would include items such as coloring books, crayons, pencils, reading materials, and other school supplies. We would also like to include a few personal hygiene items such as hand towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste, lotion, etc.
More Teachers
- There are currently two teachers for the 46 boys and 41 girls (87 children total) at Anum Nursery School. The school needs additional funding to hire at least one more teacher and one attendant.
Hiring School Lunch Cooks
- Also, as stated earlier, the same teachers that teach the students also wash the students’ dishes after lunch, which takes away time from classroom lessons. CHI would like to acquire enough funding to hire a kitchen attendant to allow the teachers to spend more time with the students.
New Chalkboards and Desks
- The students currently share small chalkboards as there are not enough chalkboards for each student and thus, sometimes the students also use their desks as chalkboards. The desks at Anum Nursery School are over 15 years old and in very poor condition. We would like to secure at least $1500 to buy more chalkboards and to hire carpenters in Ghana to build new desks for the children.
New Playground Equipment
- The playground equipment the children currently use was donated several years ago and is in desperate need of repair. CHI’s goal is to raise at least $2000 to buy the children new and safer playground equipment.
Complete School Building
- CHI’s principal goal for the Anum Nursery School Project is to raise at least $20,000 to finish the school building that was started over ten years ago, but the community has not had enough funding to complete. Currently (as shown above), over 80 students are crammed into a three room shack.
